More Breaking News Bad

The Malaysian Prime Minister, in a gut wrenching announcement this morning announced what we all feared: The Plane Ended its Flight Somewhere Over the Indian Ocean.

He went on to plead that the media respect the privacy of the grieving families.

What is CNN doing all day?

Showing over and over the video of the shattered families. One shot of a woman wailing, prostrate on the floor. Another shot of a woman being carried out on a stretcher. And on and on ad nauseam.

All I can say is What The Fuck CNN!?

Pretty sure Fox is doing the same, but I have not tuned into them.

  1. It is difficult to watch sometimes (most of the time). Broadcast journalism used to be much better; that is for certain. No one in charge has any decency any more, it seems to me.
Thank you for reading my rant and for your comments.

  2. I cannot stand to watch any national news anymore. They only dwell on negative stories and have zero respect for families in pain and grief. When called on the carpet about it, they spout the 1st Amendment. Yes, we need Freedom of Speech. Thankfully, I have other ways to get news without relying on all major news networks.

I do not believe for one minute the masses want to see others’ pain and suffering. I’m also glad my remote works. Great post, Lance. 🙂

  3. My Favorite Idiot to watch was Glenn Beck. He always red-lined my stupid meter within the first five minutes of his show. It was the best comedy since Lenny Bruce.
    Miss Ya Glenn!

    Thanks Teela,
Seriously, there is no decent broadcast journalism left in this country (that I know of anyhow)
    Appreciate your reading and commenting.

  4. It is no different than watching Jerry Springer. Shameless. Ratings are more important than the actual act of portraying any semblance of ethical conduct. I can’t watch it, ’cause if I do, it pisses me off so bad I can’t stand myself.
    Great rant Lance.

  5. If memory serves, once upon a time the media had respect for grief. But those days have long since gone.
It really adds nothing to the news to see people suffering this way.
Wanna cover the missing plane story 24/7? Fine. Cover the story, but leave the people who are grieving the hell alone.
Thank you Sharon for reading and commenting.

  6. Hiya Neb,
Trust me on this: don’t bother watching. It is, as you said, sickening. I have heard so much bullshit regarding this story, but I guess they need to fill their airtime and sell stuff. In some respects we are all to blame for not demanding better from the media.

Thank you for your comment and for your time.
    Cheers,

  7. The way the Malaysian government has handled this tragedy is horrendous and inexcusable. I agree. But the fact remains the media have done a horrible disservice to the friends and families of the victims. That was my point.
Mad Annie, thanks so much for reading and commenting. Your time here is always valued.

  8. I can truthfully say that I have gone months at a time not watching TV at all.
Generally now, as I am working on my blog, I have the TV on, but muted. If I see something that looks interesting, I turn on the volume.

Thanks Heathen for dropping in and reading my mini-rant.
Your comments are all ways appreciated.

  9. Actually, not sure if your comment was tongue-in-cheek, but all the times I found myself in Dubai, I watched Al Jazeera a lot (English version of course–I only know enough Arabic to get into trouble) and I found that network refreshing. I saw what I considered to be some very good broadcast journalism.
    Truly.
I can now watch them here in the states, and often do.

Thanks again for your time and for commenting.

  10. I get news from many sources, internet, newspapers, magazines, such as Time and….Texas Monthly.
Cable News is mostly for entertainment, as far as I am concerned. And I do laugh at my Television. I also have been known to throw stuff at it while cussing.

    Thank you David for commenting.

  11. Hi Laura,
Yeah. I concur. There has been virtually no other serious news coverage for two weeks. Stuff is happening in Ukraine, Washington state, and Texas! (hehe).
As they say, “If it bleeds, it leads.”
Thanks for coming by and commenting, as always.

  12. I couldn’t agree more…enough of that sh*t…..people shouldn’t be photographed or video taped in their grief. I do not want to see it. It is their private hell. Leave them alone!

  13. Sadly, it is what some want to see. It is sickening, I’ve been fortunate to have been privy to any that, but then again, I’ve not watched television in days.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  14. All I can come up with is that if sensationalism didn’t sell they wouldn’t do it. I guess that’s why here in Heathen House our favorite channel is OFF — the one television we’ve got isn’t connected in any way to the outside world. 🙂

  15. Talking about dumbing us down. Like there isn’t other news they should be covering instead of exploiting these poor families?

  16. If just one of them would take the high ground, it might restore some respect. But of course, this will never happen. I have not checked out the other networks and I would LOVE to be proven wrong. I am not holding my breath.
Thank you for reading and responding.
